I heard another Dhamma teacher say that if we feel superior to another person, because we have followed the path and they don't, we immediately lose our merit gained from practicing the Dhamma. Do you agree?

When I go back home, I'm surrounded by people with wrong views and wrong actions. How can I avoid: a) feeling superior, b) feeling depressed, or c) getting influenced by their behavior?
